To switch to worker mpm from prefork in apache on Centos/RHEL type systems edit this file.. /etc/sysconfig/httpd and uncomment this line.. HTTPD=/usr/sbin/httpd.worker Tune the worker settings in httpd.conf to suit and then restart apache.
